Please visit imaginepeace.com to write your tributes. My sympathy and love to Yoko, Sean and Julian on this very sad day. But since all time is now, John is still here with us, with his beautiful music and beautiful soul. Peace and let us all continue to Imagine...

    I still remember the morning (in England) I heard that John Lennon was dead. I had just woken, Ann (my wife then) told me - it was like hearing JFK had been assassinated. I think John Lennon probably made a larger contribution to the world than JFK - Lennon changed how I thought, affected how I lived my life (I credit Yoko Ono with these changes, too) - and made some of the most beautiful music ever created. I would rank him alongside Mozart, with a touch of Gandhi and the humor of Einstein.

    I've often imagined what music would have poured from his soul, what passion he would have shared, what influence he would have had on culture, on politics, on our lives. Dear John, we miss you. A day never sets without millions of us hearing your art. Between the moon and the sun, we still remember you.

    Thank you both for your comments. John was an inspiration and a visionary. If you read, listen to or watch the news, sometimes it's hard to see the peace that is within us, but we are born with a harmony that fills the cosmos, even if at times that harmony resembles beautiful - or terrifying - chaos. Peace is possible. Peace is now. Peace is us. We are love...and we all shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun. (To have written that line alone would make a life worthwhile).

The High Tower Apartments and The Long Goodbye

This beautiful apartment complex in Los Angeles is called the Hightower or High Tower Complex (the High Tower name refers to the central elevator, I believe), and was designed in 1935-1936 by architect  Carl Kay - and made famous in 1973 by my favorite film, Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye (see Why I Love Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye ). Although Altman used the building as Philip Marlowe's apartment in his somewhat post-modern Long Goodbye (the film plays with references to Old Hollywood and opens and closes with the song, Hooray For Hollywood ), the building has another direct connection to Raymond Chandler. It was apparently the inspiration for Chandler in his book, The High Window (the first Chandler novel I ever read), in which Chandler describes the residence of Philip Marlowe as being on the cliffs above High Tower Drive in a building with a fancy elevator tower. Andrew Hale and Sade

On Thursday evening, we saw our longtime friend Andrew Hale perform with Sade at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, in one of the most beautifully conceived and produced concert performances I have ever seen. Sade is a rare musician, in that she and the band only write, record and tour every eight to ten years, so that in a very real sense you can measure your life by her. The band's music is always fresh and always newly conceived - for their previous album, Lovers Rock , they stripped everything down musically to a minimalist sound and banished the saxophone that had been so much a part of Sade's heavily soul- and jazz-influenced style.
