Happy New Year 2016!

Happy New Year 2016 to all our friends in Europe, Asia and elsewhere...and soon here in America ✨πŸΎπŸ’«

The Beauty of the Beach

One of my all-time favorite shots of our family on the beach at Santa Cruz at high tide.
The beach in winter is fascinating to listen to and observe. The waves pound the sand with a force you can hear streets away.
They would entirely block the harbor mouth with sand if not for constant dredging by the harbor authorities throughout the winter - which redistributes sand onto the beach, where an earthmover works pretty much constantly to shore up the road side of the beach against natural erosion.
It's strange how we take our California beaches for granted, yet most of them (the ones people use, anyway) require management in some way.
I remember in Miami Beach, after Hurricane Andrew, when the lifeguard huts were swept 100-300 metres across the sand and the seaweed piled high in mounds you could climb, I realized how much work daily went into keeping the beaches manicured, evenly leveled and seaweed-free.
We all love nature, but we like it to be convenient. Living by the beach, you …

Merry Christmas To All...And To All A Good Night!

As our children prepare for bed, super excited about what tonight will bring, I offer my Christmas and holiday wishes to everyone, together with this fun seasonal reworking of a photograph of Tim Roth and me, created by Nath Alie, who runs The War Zone Message Board for survivors of abuse.

While I am drawn most to Buddhism (I feel it is a way of experiencing the world, rather than a particular kind of belief), I love this time of year more than any other in terms of the magic in the air, and I still feel a childlike and perhaps primal thrill around the winter green of Christmas trees and colored lights.

Wishing warmth, happiness and love to all, and peace and harmony to our beautiful planet.

Merry Christmas to all...and to all a good night!

(Tim, of course, will be seen this Christmas in Quentin Tarantino's new blockbuster, The Hateful Eight.)

Miso in our Christmas Tree

It's not Christmas until we've photographed our lovebird Miso in our Christmas tree! πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Hudson's Bunny Quest Kickstarter Triumph!

Hudson's Bunny Quest Kickstarter campaign is now complete and more than fully funded at $1,395 (his goal was $1,200). Yesterday he published this update on Kickstarter.

Huge thanks from all of us to all our friends and everyone else who gave such wonderful support to Hudson.
He has worked so hard and he knows a lot of work lies ahead...and we have to make sure that his computer time/schoolwork/healthy life balance is a good one!
Thank you all! Alexander + Hudson

Bunny Quest - Less Than 38 Hours To Go!

Hudson just posted this update to his Kickstarter campaign for his retro video puzzle game, Bunny Quest - there are actually less than 38 hours to go!

Less than 48 hours to go!Hi, there's less than 48 hours to go until my Bunny Quest Kickstarter ends! I'm so happy I made my goal but if you have any friends who'd like to pledge, too, that would be awesome. I am going to have additional music licensing fees and other costs down the line.

But I'm so excited. Thank you! And in case you're wondering, this is a picture of our oldest pet, eight year old Mr. Bunny, who was definitely part of the inspiration for Bunny Quest.

Thank you everyone!
Hudson

You can pledge to Bunny Quest at:

Below is the Bunny Board Game that Hudson helped create when he was four years old, and which is also part of the inspiration for Bunny Quest. We made the game out of an old box that a laptop had come in - so it's kind of come full c…

Yay!! Hudson has reached his Bunny Quest Kickstarter target!

Yay!! Hudson is over the moon. This morning he reached his Bunny Quest Kickstarter target of $1200 (and more) with 9 days to go.
Many many thanks to all his backers, including the most recent Andrew Hale and Peter Hayes, for being so generous and for putting your faith in Hudson. He has already worked incredibly hard on this project and will continue to do so.
He's hoping people will continue to give to the Kickstarter campaign, to give him extra funding to make sure he can develop the game over all platforms. This game is also part of a longer plan Hudson has for other games, books and adventures.
A million thanks from Hudson and us all πŸ˜ƒ
(We will publish a full list of backers and thank you all when the Kickstarter campaign ends.)

Hudson in the Santa Cruz Sentinel

Fabulous article today in the Santa Cruz Sentinel about Hudson and Bunny Quest, beautifully written by Kara Guzman and with a truly outstanding photograph by the Sentinel's Shmuel Thaler.
Thank you both to Kara and Shmuel for your time, your interest and the wonderful care you took in presenting the story. Hudson is thrilled, as is our whole family.

He's already at $600 with 15 days to go. Please give a little and help him complete his first ever round of funding for the software licenses and other materials he needs to complete creating and coding the game! Thank you.

Hudson, Bunny Quest, Founder World - and STEAM Carnival, AT&T Park San Francisco

Our eleven year old son Hudson Chow-Stuart is having two of the most exciting weeks of his life!
He currently has a Kickstarter campaign (please click here to donate) running for a video puzzle game he is creating and coding, called Bunny Quest.
And he has just been invited to speak twice at the exciting STEAM Carnival at AT&T Park in San Francisco this Sunday, November 8th, 2015.
If you want to come and join us, he will be onstage at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. He is thrilled not only by the chance to talk about Bunny Quest, but by the opportunity to meet Nick and Adrian from Ubisoft, one of his favorite video game companies, who are speaking on the same stage as him.

Last week, Hudson and I attendedF50 and Google Developers' major tech event, Founder World, in San Francisco. I had previously blogged about F50's tech-focused conference on venture capital, Funded! Global Edition.
Hudson was so excited about going to Founder World that he woke me up at 4:00 am on Tuesday October 27, 2…
